on PC - You have on your keyboard a button that says "PrtSc", or "PrntScrn" or "PrintScreen". Hold down the "Alt" button and hit the "PrintScreen". Then, open up MS Paint or the Graphics Program of your choice. Create a new blank File. Hit the "Ctrl" button and "V" to paste the screen capture into the new document.
onMac -
Open Preview and go the File Menu, choose "Grab" then "Selection" and drag a selection over the area you want to capture.

Hold down the "Apple" and "Shift" keys, then hit "3". Then open up Preview, and hit "Apple" and "N" to create a new file from your screen shot.
